Honest InterContinental Dar Al Hijra Madinah Review 2025 — Stunning 5-Star Hotel, Uhud Views & Renovation Update

InterContinental Dar Al Hijra Madinah Review: Classical Arabic Luxury, Mount Uhud Views & Everything You Need to Know Before Booking

If you are researching an honest InterContinental Dar Al Hijra Madinah review, the first thing you must know is that there are two InterContinental hotels in Madinah — and confusing them is one of the most common booking mistakes I see. This review covers Dar Al Hijra specifically, on King Fahad Street. The other property — Dar Al Iman — sits directly next to Masjid Nabawi and is a separate hotel entirely. With that clarified, here is everything you need to know about Dar Al Hijra before booking your Umrah stay — including a critical renovation update that changes the calculus for 2026 bookings.

Two InterContinentals — Know the Difference

This single clarification can save your Umrah booking from going wrong. There are two InterContinental hotels in Madinah and it is important to choose the one that best fits your needs.

InterContinental Dar Al Hijra — King Fahad Street, Central Madinah. 5 to 7 minute walk to Masjid Nabawi. This review.

InterContinental Dar Al Iman — sits directly next to Masjid Nabawi on the northern side. Different hotel, different price point, different distance.

Both earn IHG Rewards points. Both carry the InterContinental brand. But always confirm which property you are booking — and I confirm this for every client before any payment is made.

Renovation Update — Critical for 2025–2026 Bookings

The property will be renovating from October 2025 to August 2026, with the hotel making every effort to minimise noise and disturbance during this period.

For pilgrims booking between now and August 2026 — be aware that some renovation activity may be present. For pilgrims planning Umrah from late 2026 onwards — this renovation represents a significant upgrade opportunity. A freshly renovated 5-star InterContinental in central Madinah is an exceptionally exciting proposition for post-renovation bookings.

Location

This 5-star hotel features a prime location in central Madinah with Prophet Muhammad’s Holy Mosque just 984 feet away. The practical walking time is 5 to 7 minutes depending on pace and route.

The mosque is literally right outside the hotel and down the walking path. All the cafes are right outside, affordable Ubers and taxis are right there, and you can walk to Uhud and Quba from the hotel.

The hotel’s position — slightly removed from the immediate Haram gate zone — gives it a quieter, more peaceful street environment while maintaining excellent access. Paid indoor parking is available at SAR 100 per day. The airport is 15.8km away — under 20 minutes drive.

Rooms — Classical Arabic Luxury

Rooms are tastefully decorated with traditional Arabic furnishings, with serene views of the city and Jabal Uhud. Room sizes range from 30 to 48 square metres for standard rooms, up to suites of 86 to 135 square metres, and Royal Suites of 260 to 288 square metres.

Each room includes a separate dressing area, marble baths, an LCD TV, and a small fridge. Rooms and suites feature elegant traditional Arabic furnishings and sweeping views of Madinah city and Uhud mountain.

The Mount Uhud view rooms deserve special mention. The mountain carries profound Islamic significance — visible from your window, it creates a spiritual connection that no description fully captures. Always request a Mount Uhud view room when booking.

Each room has a bathroom with slippers and bathrobes, a minibar, a refrigerator, and a coffee maker. All rooms include free WiFi, in-room safe, blackout drapes, prayer mat, Qibla indicators, and 24-hour room service.

Dining — Al Safa Restaurant and Taiba Café

Al Safa Restaurant is open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Guests can enjoy many Arabian specialties and themed dinner buffets at weekends. The breakfast buffet is consistently praised for variety and quality.

During Ramadan, Suhoor replaces breakfast. Packed lunches are available on request for guests visiting Madinah’s Ziyarat sites.

Taiba Café is a genuinely unique offering in the Madinah hotel market — serving date and toffee milkshakes, hot sahlab, and traditional high tea featuring warm scones with jam, mini pastries, and dainty sandwiches, alongside specialty coffee and beverages. For a pilgrim returning from prayers wanting to sit in a beautiful space — there is nothing quite like it in the city.

H2: Staff and Facilities

The staff quality at Dar Al Hijra is exceptional. The sweetheart staff and how accommodating they were made guests feel like they were staying at a friend’s house, not the InterContinental.

The concierge arranges Ziyarat tours to Quba Mosque and the Al-Madinah Museum, and a gift shop offers prayer beads and Islamic souvenirs.

The hotel offers free WiFi, paid indoor parking, and a 24-hour business centre with meeting rooms for up to 100 guests. Additional facilities include an executive floor and lounge, currency exchange, car rental desk, dry cleaning and laundry, and luggage storage. No pool or gym is available.

Honest Pros and Cons

Pros: InterContinental 5-star brand with IHG Rewards points, classical Arabic design throughout, marble bathrooms with bathrobes and slippers, Mount Uhud view rooms, Al Safa weekend themed dinner buffets, Taiba Café — unique in Madinah, concierge Ziyarat tours, exceptional staff warmth, post-renovation upgrade coming August 2026, more repeat guests than most Madinah properties.

Cons: 5 to 7 minutes to Masjid Nabawi — not the closest on this list, renovation disruption possible until August 2026, some pre-renovation rooms show age, paid parking SAR 100/day, no pool or gym, outside noise in some rooms.

H2: Who Should Book?

InterContinental Dar Al Hijra is ideal for IHG Rewards members, business travellers needing executive facilities and meeting rooms, VIP pilgrim placements in large suites, couples and honeymooners, long-stay pilgrims who appreciate dining variety, and anyone planning Umrah post-August 2026 after the renovation completes.

Verdict

InterContinental Dar Al Hijra delivers genuine 5-star luxury in Madinah with a warmth of service that sets it apart. The renovation currently underway means the best version of this hotel is yet to come — making it an exceptionally compelling choice for 2026 and beyond Umrah bookings.
